SCUBA diving can be one of the most rewarding experiences you’ll ever have simply because it connects you with a whole new world. Seeing and identifying species is always a thrill, but seeing one in camouflage is incredible. Although as humans we are able to differentiate it from its surroundings, their camouflage is highly effective on predators and prey! Check out this awesome footage of camouflage in action. It’ll make you want to look a little closer on your next dive!

The octopus. With its really cool ability to change the color patterns and texture of its skin. Hands down.
So many to choose from! My favorite is the mimic octopus.
Octopus for sure.
I was gonna say that! I’ve seen octopus and star fish that I wouldn’t have if I wasn’t looking for them.
Scorpion fish down here in Cozumel in front of the resort Sabor blends perfectly into the rock it lays on also.

Stone fish are great at camouflage. Barely could tell them from the rocks in Croatia

FROG FISH ARE THE HARDEST FOR ME TO SPOT FOR SURE!
Flounder are pretty hard to see some times..
Scorpion fish! Dove kingfisher wreck in Thialand, our guide pointed at something on the hull, took a couple pic of the area he pointed out, got home and studied those pics. Finally found it after 3 days!
Octopus hands down!
Little garden eels are cute and u would think they were vegetation if you didn’t get close and know better.
U.S. MARINE SNIPER
Scorpion fish
Ahhh so many. How about the leafy sea dragon. I love trying to find the elusive sea horses in Bonaire. And finally flounder can be pretty hard to spot.
I saw a crab that was highly encrusted with some kind of bryophyte living in the surf in a rock cranny. When the waves came in, he would dart out to catch whatever washed in, then hide again when they went out. Best camo has to go to some species of octopi, though, as they can mimic whatever they are crouching on — Active Camouflage.
