Packing for a regular vacation is hard enough but packing for a scuba diving vacation is truly a nightmare. In addition to your regular travel needs you have to remember to pack your wetsuit, fins, mask, Regulators and Buoyancy compensation devices, as well as scores of smaller items like your logbook, SMB, sunscreen, Anti-fog for Mask, storm whistle etc. For all you iPhone and iPad users out there, there may be a handy solution to your problem.
We recently came across Scuba Check, a new iPhone + iPad application that helps you manage your packing lists for a Scuba Diving Trip allowing you to categorize both Scuba Gear as well as general packing items. Unlike your ordinary travel checklist apps, Scuba Check allows the user to pick and choose from two pre-populated Master checklists; the Scuba Gear Master and the Master Packing List which consist of almost every item of scuba gear or travel gear you may require for your trip. If it’s not there in the list, the app allows you to add custom items as necessary. The user selects the items from the master lists he wishes to take along for the trip and moves them into one Trip Packing list which will hold only necessary items from the two master lists.
The Master Lists are easy to use and well categorized into intuitive groups for Scuba Gear such as Basic Gear, Instruments, Documents, and Accessories and out –of- the- water scuba gear. The feature of being able to set priority levels for any item to help highlight importance is extremely handy. Once your list is created the user simply checks off items as they are performed.
The Scuba Check application is available at the iTunes Appstore under the sports category, and retails for just 99 cents. The current version 1.0 is compatible with the iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. Requires iPhone OS 3.0 or later.
Overall we found this application to be a real handy tool for divers, with its simple interface, extensive pre-populated lists and great value for money; this app will help you remember to carry everything you need for a dive trip from your dive slate to your seasickness medication hopefully making planning for your dive trip a little more stress free.
