The Maldives are a group of 26 atolls in the Indian Ocean. The coral here is some of the most beautiful in the world, making it a dream location for divers to explore. Let’s dive into some of the best dive sites in the Maldives.

Fotteyo Kandu

This is the largest dive site in the Maldives. While exploring the channel there will be an abundance of fish and yellow coral, with black coral deeper into the caves. A Thila that is located inside the channel is mating grounds for the Titian Triggerfish. The sandy channels on both sides are where the eggs are laid. This location features an early morning hammerhead dive.

Maya Thila

This dive site can easily be circumnavigated in one dive. One of the most life abundant dive locations, gray reef sharks, white tips, barracudas, angler fish and much more can be spotted in and around the many caves and overhangs. Turtles are also regulars at this location. Adventurous divers can explore the side of the reef with the strongest current to locate more dangerous marine life.

Bulhalhohi Caves

Diving is only permitted on the west and south sides because of the semi strong current. The visibility inside the caves is very low so a lamp of a flashlight is required to see the beautiful marine life that is abundant here. Diving experience is a must because reaching the largest cave, which is located in the middle of the south side, required a fast overhead descent. Gray reef sharks and white tip sharks are often spotted here.

Kudadhoo Ethere Faru

This site features a wall dive with an ongoing current. The reef begins at roughly nine feet and drops off to more than one hundred thirty feet on the south end. There is a canyon where coral, rock formations, and a vast amount of marine life can be seen as divers drift along the current.
