The world is filled with a variety of breathtaking destinations for SCUBA diving, but there are few quite as impressive as those found in Tahiti. The largest of the exotic French Polynesia islands, Tahiti is home to a wide range of unique and interesting dive sites that are perfect for any diver, whether inexperienced or established veteran. Divers visiting Tahiti will be treated to many different variations of fish and other marine species, as well as the vibrant, colorful coral reefs. Here’s a quick look at what you can expect when SCUBA diving in Tahiti.

Best Dive Sites for Beginners

In general, there are 12 different dive sites around Tahiti. The greatest aspect of these dive sites is their variety, as what you will encounter in one can be entirely different than what you encounter in another. If you are a new diver, there are several dive sites that might interest you. The Arue Fault is considered to be one of the most beautiful dives in Tahiti and is very accessible for beginners. The focus of this undersea cave is the many crayfish, butterflyfish, and pelagic fish that swim in these waters, as well as the enchanting corals. The Aquarium is another nice dive site for beginners, as the maximum depth is just 40 ft. This dive site is home to a stunning array of different fish, as well as artificial reefs created by three different shipwrecks.

Best Dive Sites for Experienced Divers

If you’re a seasoned diver who has gone on countless dives throughout the world, you’ll find that SCUBA diving in Tahiti provides more than enough exciting dive sites. The St. Etienne dropoff has a depth of just over 200 ft, which can be reached by diving past the vertical walls created by several amazing coral formations. The La Zelee site hosts a fascinating shipwreck, as well as pink and black coral. If you are looking to spot some white tip sharks, try diving at the amazing Te Maruata site as well.
