More ocean than land, the Caribbean Basin spans the area roughly between the southern tip of Florida in the north, the Honduran and Nicaraguan coasts to the west, Venezuela to the south, and the island of Barbados in the East. Thanks to the scattered islands and small landmasses, this tropical area is a smorgasbord of wildlife both in and out of the water. It comes as no surprise, then, that the region is a premier destination when it comes to the best shark diving experiences. Let’s take a look at just three of the most renowned places here.

Turks and Caicos

The group of islands collectively called the Turks and Caicos are often cited as one of the best the Caribbean has to offer. Deep submarine trenches surround coral reefs with such an abundance of wildlife that multiple trips won’t exhaust all there is to see. Whale sharks and bull sharks are just two of the many species to be found on an average shark dive.

Tobago

Tobago, at the southeastern edge of the Caribbean Sea, is another great location when it comes to seeing sharks. In addition, some of the largest brain coral on record promises to add variety. This is a great place to go for spotting hammerheads, one of the most recognizable of all shark species.

Mexico

Mexico’s Caribbean coast offers an experience like no other, even when it comes to sharks. Here, during the summer months, hundreds of whale sharks congregate to feed. Whale sharks are not only the biggest shark, they’re the biggest fish, and diving with these gentle giants is praised by every person who gets the chance to share space with them.
