Scuba diving masks are essential to divers of all experience levels. It doesn’t matter whether you’re a beginner or expert diver, as you’ll need this vital piece of scuba diving equipment to see clearly underwater. Without a diving mask, we’re just blind explorers deprived of the ability to see breathtaking underwater sites.

One of the most important things to consider when planning a recreational scuba trip is the dive spot’s visibility. There’s nothing like the awe-inspiring feeling of seeing marine life and corals in their most accurate colors. To truly appreciate these marvels, divers should wear high-quality color corrected scuba masks.

What Do Color Correction Scuba Masks Do?

If clear dive masks can give you decent visibility underwater, why should any diver bother to invest in one with color-correcting filters? The reason we need color corrected scuba masks is simple: The effect of water on light is similar to a giant red filter absorbing red light the deeper you go, leaving visible only the blues and greens of the spectrum. By three meters or 10 feet in depth, there will be no red light left from the sunlight underwater, and by 25 meters or 80 feet, only the blue part of the spectrum will be left visible.

One of the methods that can be used to compensate for this color loss underwater is to use a color-correcting filter. In underwater photography, color filters are added to cameras to achieve great color and contrast. In the same manner, tinted scuba masks have color-correcting filtered lenses so that divers can see richer and more vibrant colors.

Divers can also use tinted masks to keep fish from swimming away. It is believed that fish look for two big eyes to identify predators that might be after them. Donning a tinted dive mask makes your eyes less visible, keeping fish from swimming away (and perhaps even piquing their curiosity).

SeaVision Masks

Looking for a color correction dive mask to help you appreciate the vivid corals and schools of fish on your next dive? A great place to start would be SeaVision. This company is renowned for its production of color corrected SeaVision masks, as well as corrective dive masks for people with vision problems. The former comes with patented color correction lensesthe magenta lens and the yellow lens.

SeaVision’s yellow lens is designed to provide maximum vision in dimly lit environments, such as lakes and rivers. These lenses are also ideal for night diving. Aside from optimizing the available light, the yellow lens also improves divers’ vision.

Meanwhile, SeaVision’s magenta lens is designed for use in warmer waters where colors are more vibrant. The lens will filter out the blue spectrum in the water, allowing your eyes to see the brilliant reds, oranges, yellows, and greens that are lost as you descend to deeper depths.
