Although the requisite uniform for a SCUBA diver will generally be the same across the board, there is no law that says you can’t jazz up your gear a bit. Some accessories are actually helpful for safety, if they make you more visible to your dive buddy or others in the water. But you don’t have to don a checker print wetsuit just to be different (although, now we kind of want one). There are a bunch of products on the market to personalize your gear for fun, for safety, or just for identification purposes. Here are a few of these items you might find interesting.
Aqua 50″ Spiral Hose Wrap – $4.95
These hose wraps are a great option for new divers learning to identify which hose is which, or just to help yourself keep them straight. Many divers have purchased one to wrap their octopus hose in in order to help their buddy see it right away if they need it. A hose wrap will also help to protect the hose itself from cuts and general wear and tear. They come in three colors: blue, green, and yellow, and are long enough to wrap the entire length of whichever hose you choose.
Scuba Hides Tank Cover – $17.95
Tank covers are a great way to identify your tank from everyone else’s on the boat. Depending on your hobbies and preferences, they can also say a little about you to other divers, maybe break the ice a little? The cover is made of 10mm polyethylene, and is removable and resuable. Each tank cover comes with two shrink wrap sleeves, one as an extra in case the other wears out, and the cover will not cover up your inspection information. Have some fun and “hide” your tank!
For staying visible, nothing beats the glow of this little light stick. For use on night dives or day dives where visibility may be low, one of these attached to your regulator’s first stage or clipped on to your BC will be sure to illuminate your location for your dive buddy and other divers. It comes in a variety of colors, and the best part is, it is reusable with a simple battery change. One battery will get you 30 hours of constant light, and it is watertight at any depth. Brighten up your dives with a Glo-Toob!

Military dog tags. You can personalize them however you like and they hold up well to fresh & salt water.
My bc has my submersible padi and Dan tags on it. The rest of my equipment has my initials in white ink.
I have an actual dog tag on my reg first stage. Bright purple, so it stands out
I wrote stolen from………on all my weight pouches
I peed in my wetsuit does that count?
I use a dog-collar tag with my ID information attached to my BC chest strap. Because the strap runs through the two slots there is nothing to dangle.
