Next-Gen Fins: Mares Introduces The X-Stream Fins

by Noreen on August 26, 2010

Is is a full blade fin? Is it a split fin?….It’s the new X-Stream fin from Mares. Looking nothing like traditional scuba fins we’re used to seeing, the Mares X-Stream fins look more like they arrived from the future. A result of some award winning design and technology, the new Mares fin gets it’s sleek look from the three distinct materials, each with its own mission.

This lightweight fin, rated the lightest in it’s group is said to be one of the faster fins in terms of speed and it’s successful design shows as it generates a lot of power for not a lot of effort. The uniqueness of the it’s design starts in the fact that Mares has introduced a perforated foot pocket, which allows water to drain from the space between your boot and the foot pocket, eliminating excess drag. It continues onto the blade which features the company’s next-gen OPB (Optimized Pivoting Blade) which causes the blade to flex at an optimal angle during both the upward and downward strokes, increasing the efficiency of the divers kick. Plus, the straps feature ABS Plus (Adjustable Binding System) for one step quick and easy opening or closing. Finally, a clear, soft rubber is used on the foot pocket and on the blade’s Superchannel, a large flexible central panel that helps propel water-flow more efficiently down the fin blade instead of letting it spill over the sides for optimal performance and minimal diver effort.
