Some divers don’t like the feel of gloves when they’re on a dive, but there are some conditions that make them downright necessary. Not only do they help insulate your hands from the cold, but they offer superb protection against stings, cuts, and scrapes that are all too easy to get on a dive. There are some great designs on the market today that cater to a variety of divers’ needs, like more or less thickness, and even compatibility with certain wetsuits. If you’re in the market for some extra protection for your hands, look no further than LeisurePro. Here are a few of our favorites from their wide selection of gloves.
Gone are the days of scratchy seams with these slick seamless gloves from Camaro. Using seamless bonding to construct these slick gloves means there are no seams that can come unraveled over time. Not only that, but it reduces the amount of water exchange that happens with sewn seams, making these a warmer option than your standard glove. A 100 percent waterproof, tear-resistant elastic tape is the technology behind seamless bonding, and each seam is double welded for reinforcement. The palm features an abrasion-resistant silicone coating for durability and greater dexterity on your dives, which divers who wear gloves know can be a frustrating aspect when you need tactile sensitivity. Also available in 5mm and 1mm.
These 2mm gloves from Bare are not designed for warmth, but rather just to protect your hands in warm water from sharp edges, rocks, and corals. There’s a lot to be said for wearing exposure protection even in warm water, and these gloves get the job done. The palm side and fingertips are sewn with a synthetic suede material for good grip and protection from abrasions, and the rest of the glove is soft 2mm neoprene. Cinches with an elastic Velcro strap, and has a little pull tab for easy donning. These would be a great addition to your warm water gear.
For the lady divers out there, we recommend the InstaDry glove from Henderson. Its soft, flexible neoprene is formulated to keep its loft throughout many dives, with a slick antimicrobial lining that’s easy to slip into. Each seam is glued and blind stitched for a durable life, and the textured Cyclone Grip palm ensures superior dexterity. Don’t forget the whole InstaDry thing too.
